Union Home Minister Amit Shah will meet leaders of the BJP and the JD(S) in Bengaluru on Tuesday during his first campaign visit to Karnataka ahead of the Lok Sabha elections to be held on April 26 and May 7.
MLA V Sunil Kumar, convener of the BJP’s state election management committee, told reporters on Monday that Shah would address a convention of party workers at Palace Grounds in Bengaluru at 11 am. Around 5,000 BJP workers from the five constituencies around the city are expected to participate in the convention.
Shah will later travel to Channapatna to campaign for the BJP’s Bangalore Rural candidate, Dr CN Manjunath, who is the son-in-law of former prime minister and JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda. Manjunath is pitted against Congress candidate DK Suresh, brother of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who is also the state Congress president.
JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy said he would hold a breakfast meeting with Shah to discuss election strategies for the coalition of his party and the BJP. The JD(S) is contesting three of the 28 seats as part of the coalition.
Shivakumar said on Sunday that Shah was visiting Channapatna to stop the bickering between the BJP and the JD(S).
