The trial run of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train between Ahmedabad and Mumbai was completed with an operating speed of 130 kilometres/hour on Friday.
In total, this semi-high-speed sleeper train proved its capability in performance by covering the distance from Ahmedabad to Mumbai in about four hours. Friday’s trial was conducted at a maximum speed of 130 kmph, which railway officials said was satisfactory.
The test was conducted with the second rake, which consists of 16 coaches, and is being run in trial mode by the Research Design and Standards Organisation, utilising specially modified bogies. Following the successful trial on November 14, further technical checks and COCR (Confirmatory Oscillograph Car Run) trials will be carried out, as per the plans of the Railway Board and RDSO.
Sources in the Western Railway said that on November 14, the test rack was placed in the pit line at Ahmedabad and the equipment fitment, calibration and magneto phone setup were to be completed.
Following this, a special COCR trial will be conducted on November 15 on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara-Mumbai Central section, with a maximum speed of 130 km/h. The COCR run will be repeated on the Mumbai Central-Vadodara-Ahmedabad section in the return direction on November 16. The RDSO team will be accompanied by officers from the Operating, Mechanical, Engineering, Electrical, S&T and Security Departments during the two-day trial. The Railways have issued instructions to ensure all necessary arrangements, including the officers’ rest house, power supply, recording station, watering facilities, and security, are ready in advance, so that there is no hindrance on the way during this entire period.
Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek said, “This is only a trial run of the Vande Bharat sleeper version train. We did a successful trial between Ahmedabad and Mumbai Central on November 14. After the trial, the railway board will decide which route or which rail zone this train will run.”
