Bhupendra Rana, Principal Photographer of The Indian Express, stood first in a photo exhibition jointly organised by the Vadodara City police and the Faculty of Fine Arts at MS University between July 22 and July 24.
The exhibition was themed ‘Police on Duty’. Rana’s winning-photograph depicting a lady police personnel carrying along her toddler to duty earned a special mention from Vadodara Commissioner of Police Shamsher Singh.
Calling it a “true spirit of photo journalism as well as police duty”, he said, “This photograph (by Bhupendra Rana), which depicted the ‘call of duty’ of the police, also inspired us (the department) to set up creches for children of police personnel at every police station. We understand that sometimes, bringing children to work could be the only option for an officer. We are extremely proud to see this dedication from our officers.”
The contest-cum-exhibition was judged by Vadodara city police officials, including Joint Commissioner of Police Manoj Ninama, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) Yashpal Jagania, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Jyoti Patel, artist Kamal Rana and Professor Piyush Thakkar. Rana’s work also won in the second category of ‘Viewers Choice’ Award, bagging over 200 votes in the contest.
