Scaling up manufacturing capabilities key to secure India’s future as a global leader: NITI Aayog member

CALLING FOR scaling up of manufacturing capabilities in the critical sectors of semiconductors and renewable energy technologies, Dr V K Saraswat, Member of NITI Aayog and former chief of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), emphasised on reducing the reliance on imports for enhanced global competitiveness/

Saraswat was speaking at an annual technology event, Illuminate, organised by L&T Technology Services in Vadodara on Saturday.

Saraswat was one of the keynote speakers at the fourth edition of L&T’s flagship event, held in partnership with Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU), Gujarat, and organised in Vadodara for the first time. The theme was Smart Industry, Sustainable Future: Engineering Innovation for India’s Next Leap.

Saraswat said, “To secure India’s future as a global leader, we must prioritise scaling up our manufacturing capabilities, particularly in critical sectors such as semiconductors, rare earth materials, and renewable energy technologies. Embedding AI-driven smart processes into our industrial ecosystem will not only enhance productivity and efficiency but also drive down operational costs…”

Stressing on promoting innovation in the country, Saraswat said, “By encouraging indigenous innovation and committing to sustainable manufacturing practices, we can significantly reduce our reliance on imports and bolster India’s strategic capabilities. This comprehensive approach will position our nation at the forefront of advanced technologies, strengthening India’s global competitiveness and resilience in a rapidly evolving world.,”

The event, held at the Pandit Deendayal Auditorium, saw a packed house with students, academicians, and industry professionals participating in a series of insightful discussions on the future of engineering.

Founder of the Energy Swaraj Foundation Chetan Solanki, former President of R&D at Reliance Industries Madhukar Garg, Subrat Tripathy, Chief Segment Officer – Process Industry at LTTS, Director of PDEU School of Technology Anirbid Sircar and CEO and Managing Director of L&T Technology Services Amit Chada also participated in key discussions at the event.
