Minor girl ‘raped’,accused held

The police in Sabarkantha arrested a youth on Monday for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl from Mouluj village in Modasa taluka in the district.

The police in Sabarkantha arrested a youth on Monday for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl from Mouluj village in Modasa taluka in the district.

The police said Naresh Baria,a resident of Malpur Taluka was caught from the local market in the village where he was shopping with his family members.

Sub-Inspector R D Dabhi said: “The accused had come to his uncle’s place at Mouluj village to spend the vacation. The victim’s family stays opposite his uncle’s house. Baria kept a watch on the girl for some time and on Sunday night he followed her when she went to relieve herself on the village outskirts. “ He added: “It was a forested area and completely secluded. Baria took this as an opportunity to rape the minor. He fled from the spot. Later the girl narrated the incident to her parents who lodged a complaint with the Modasa Rural Police. The accused has confessed to the act”.

Baria has been booked on charges of rape under Section 375 of the IPC. Further investigations are on.
