An fir against Lambha (west) ward councillor Kalubhai Bharvad and his brother Deva Bharvad was filed on Saturday for allegedly threatening to kill an Ahmedabad Municipal Corporations (AMC) estate department sub-inspector.
In his complaint,Umesha Rani,the AMC official,alleged the councillor and his brother had snatched papers from him when he had gone to Gyaspur to check an unauthorised illegal construction site.
Meanwhile,Bharvad said he had nothing to do with the construction activity and had gone to the spot as an elected representative after getting complaints about civic officials extorting money from people in the name of checking constructions.
The house in question is in gamtal (village area) where officials kept harassing people. I had to tell them to go back, Bharvad said.
Municipal Commissioner G P Mohapatra said he did not want to comment in this case as an FIR had been filed. However,he said this was a routine case of people preventing officials from doing their duty. Aslali police are investigating the case further.
