Human rights organisation Jan Sangharsh Manch (JSM) has opposed the application moved by Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind (JUH) at the Nanavati-Mehta Commission whereby JUH has demanded to strike off the entire deposition of IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt before the Commission in connection with the 2002 riots.
In its application dated May 25,JUH had demanded to struck off the deposition of Bhatt by saying that administering the oath to the witness before his examination and cross-examination is a mandatory process, which has not been followed by the Commission. JUH has also demanded that Bhatt has submitted his affidavit before the Supreme Court and not before the Commission,so he cannot be cross-examined by any party appearing before the Commission.
JSM advocate Mukul Sinha said they have opposed the JUH application to the extent that it has demanded to strike off the entire evidence provided by Bhatt before the Commission. Sinha said JUH did not object to Bhatts cross-examination by JSM at the relevant time and therefore the evidence recorded during the cross-examination by JSM cannot be struck off.
In his deposition before the Commission,Bhatt has made some serious allegations against the state government in general and against Chief Minister Narendra Modi and the then Minister of State (Home),Amit Shah,in particular.
