IMD issues heatwave warning in Gujarat till April 9; orange, yellow alerts for several places

“No large change in maximum temperatures during next 48 hours; thereafter gradual rise by 2-3 degrees very likely over the region. Maximum temperatures are very likely to be in the range of 42-43 degree Celsius over parts of Gujarat including Saurashtra and Kutch. Discomfort conditions due to hot and humid air very likely to prevail over the coastal areas of South Gujarat region and Saurashtra-Kutch from Aporil 3 till 8,” IMD stated in its forecast.

Based on the forecast, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has also chalked out a heat action plan. While Ahmedabad is under a yellow alert till April 5, where the maximum temperature is expected to be 42 degree Celsius, an orange alert has been issued for April 6 and 7 where maximum temperature is expected to touch 43 degrees. An advisory has been issued accordingly for the residents.

As per IMD, from April 6 to 9, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in Porbandar, Rajkot, Kutch, Junagadh, Morbi, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Gandhinagar and Patan.

On Thursday, Bhuj recorded 42.8 degree Celsius, Rajkot 42.7, Kandla Airport 42, Amreli 41.3, Deesa 41.2, Keshod 40.9, Ahamedabad 40 and Gandhinagar 39.9 degrees.

Temperatures were above normal in parts of Saurashtra and North Gujarat.
