Gujarat: Student and mentally-unstable woman raped in 2 districts, say police

“According to the complaint filed by the woman’s father, the accused forcibly dragged her to bushes on Monday evening when she was on her way home and forced himself on her. The woman is not in a sound mental state. We have conducted a medical test on her and registered a case of Rape under Indian Penal Code section 376 against Vikramsinh Jhala. The accused will be arrested soon,” said a police officer from Mehsana.

The second incident was registered in Vidya Nagar area of Anand district when a 19-year-old woman was allegedly abducted in a car and raped by a man on November 16. According to police, an FIR was registered Monday night after the victim approached the police.

The survivor, a BSc student, said in her complaint that she was abducted around 4 pm on Saturday when she was on her way back to hostel from college.

“The woman stated in her complaint that she was abducted by one Kishan Rathva, also a resident of Anand, who then took the vehicle to a secluded spot and raped her. We have booked Rathva under rape and abduction charges and completed the medical test of the wo-man. The accused has not been arrested yet,” said a police officer in Vidya Nagar police station.
