Gujarat Floods Update, IMD Rain Forecast Live: Even as the state deals with the aftermath of the floods last week, several parts of Gujarat region and Saurashtra-Kutch are likely to receive heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the next two days. The India Meterological Department’s (IMD) Ahmedabad Center has issued warnings today. Around 36 people have died in rain-related incidents triggered by flash floods in the state since August 25.
Flood damage assessment: The Home Ministry on Sunday constituted an inter-ministerial team to assess the damage caused by rainfall and floods in Gujarat. “The team will shortly visit the flood-affected districts of Gujarat, which was hit by heavy to extremely heavy rainfall between August 25 and August 30 caused by a deep depression formed over Rajasthan and Gujarat,” according to an official statement.
Cyclone Asna: Cyclonic storm Asna which moved away west-northwestwards away from the Indian coast on Saturday is likely to move further and gradually weaken into a depression by Monday Saturday. The effect of the weather system could impact rainfall activity in Gujarat.
While Saurashtra and Kutch districts are likely to receive heavy rain today, Tuesday and Wednesday could see "Very Heavy Rain".
On Wednesday, districts in the Saurashtra region like Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Rajkot and Porbandar received between 50 mm and 200 mm of rain in 12 hours, ending 6 pm. Bhanvad taluka of Devbhumi Dwarka received 185 mm of rain during this period — the highest in the state.
A video showing some Vadodara residents performing garba in a flooded street has gone viral. The video has amused many social media users considering it was on Wednesday that the Army was called in to help with relief and rescue operations in the city.

The IMD has issued warning for heavy rains, thunderstorms, lightning and squally winds in Gujarat region. They include districts of Ahmedabad, Amreli, Banaskantha, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Dang, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Kheda, Kachchh, Mehsana, Panchmahal, Rajkot, Sabarkantha, Surat, Surendranagar and Vadodara.
