Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Wednesday unveiled the Gujarat Media Club (GMC) welfare fund, worth Rs 1 crore, at an event organised by the club to celebrate Sharad Purnima on Wednesday.

The fund is aimed at providing financial assistance to journalists and their families during times of need, particularly in cases of critical medical emergencies, a press release said Thursday.

While presenting the Letter of Investiture, Patel said, “The interest generated from this Rs 1 crore corpus will ensure ongoing support for the welfare needs of our journalists in the years to come.”

Nirnay Kapoor, GMC president, said the fund was “long overdue”.

At the event, artist Purva Mantri sang Aavti Kalay, the garba penned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, released during Navratri.
