The BJP and the Congress in Vadodara were busy protesting for different reasons on Monday. Agitating against the recent objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother, allegedly made from the stage of the Congress-RJD alliance during an event in Bihar, the BJP’s Mahila Morcha, held a protest near the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar in Alkapuri. The protesters then marched to the office of the District Collector to hand over a memorandum in connection with the incident. This was one of the several protests staged by the party since the alleged incident in Bihar. Meanwhile, the Congress marched to the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), with miniature toy crocodiles and toy currency claiming that the Rs 1,200 crore Vishwamitri flood mitigation project had failed. The Congress alleged that the civic body had failed to ensure that the Vishwamitri waters did not flood the city during the recent spell of heavy rains and demanded a vigilance inquiry against the elected BJP leaders as well as the officials involved in the project. The party leaders, led by city unit President Rutvij Joshi left a few toy currency notes and a toy crocodile outside the offices of the Mayor and Standing Committee chairman and also sat down in protest outside the office of the VMC Commissioner, who was unavailable to receive the Congress memorandum. Both protests dispersed during the day.
