The Consumer Forum has asked a financial services firm and a bank to pay compensation to former BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah after he failed to use his credit card to make payments.

The Consumer Forum has asked a financial services firm and a bank to pay compensation to former BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah after he failed to use his credit card to make payments.

The incident occurred in 2006 when Shah had gone to Dubai to attend International Cricket Council meeting as BCCI Secretary.

Shah, who possessed a Diners Club International credit card, wanted to use it to pay the hotel bill but the Citibank, which was administrating the card did not accept it and returned it to Shah with remarks “refer to issuer”,said Bipin Mehta,Shah’s advocate.

Shah also tried to talk it out with the Diners Club authorities but to no avail. After returning to India,Shah moved Consumer Forum and sought compensation from the two companies for harming his reputation.

The Forum on Wednesday observed that it was a mistake on the part of the bank and the Club and ordered them to pay Rs 10,000 and other expenses borne by the complainant within one month,Mehta said.

Niranjan Shah is also honorary secretary of Saurashtra Cricket Association.
