The Tandalja Development Council (TDC) – a community-based public welfare organisation working for social, educational, infrastructural and civic development of Tandalja in Vadodara – on Monday submitted a representation to the chairman of Gujarat State Waqf Board, Gandhinagar, regarding the challenges faced by various Waqf Trusts across the state in completing their Umeed Portal registration, which is mandatory under the amended Waqf Act 2025.

The Council has called for transparency by publishing weekly progress data of Trust registrations and accountability as well as an extension of a year in the deadline from December 6, 2025 to December 6, 2026.

The representation highlights technical issues experienced on the Umeed Portal, delays in obtaining necessary documents from different departments, and the need for improved coordination between government offices, including city survey, revenue, collector’s office and local municipal authorities.

Sagirahmed Ansari, co-founder of TDC told The Indian Express, “With these challenges, less than 2 per cent properties in Gujarat have been able to register on the portal so far. The response to our concerns was positive today.”

The Council has requested the Waqf Board to provide the Trust with documents on the same day of application, make PTR (Public Trust Register) records, Waqf deeds and property details digitally accessible, establish district-level Waqf help desk centers or liaison officers to guide applicants free of cost, publish weekly progress data of Trust registrations for transparency and accountability along with directing concerned government departments to expedite issuance of property documents required for verification.

The Council said, “Our goal is to support and strengthen lawful management of Waqf properties and ensure Gujarat emerges as one of the leading states in achieving complete and successful registration on the Umeed Portal, earning appreciation at the national level from the Central Waqf Council and Government of India.”

TDC has voluntarily offered to take complete responsibility of assisting all Waqf Trusts in Vadodara district to ensure 100 per cent registration on the Umeed Portal without charging any fees.
