The Indian Coast Guards North-Western regional headquarters will be operational from July 10 here,according to an official statement released on Tuesday.
It,however,said that this will be a temporary arrangement as the Coast Guard will actually need a larger infrastructure to handle its operations.
Coast Guard Inspector General Satyaprakash Sharma met Chief Minister Narendra Modi at his office here and put forth a demand for 125 acres in the state Capital to construct a full-fledged regional headquarters. According to the statement,the Chief Minister was positive on this proposal. At present,the Coast Guard has been allotted an office in the premises of the Gujarat Industrial Investment Corporation.
The Gandhinagar headquarters will handle all Coast Guard operations in the Arabian Sea off
Gujarat. Senior state government officials and the Coast Guard Commanding Officer were also present at the meeting.
