Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP P Chidambaram suffered a health scare on Tuesday afternoon while attending the extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Ahmedabad.
The former Union minister reportedly “almost fainted” during a prayer ceremony at Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram, where Congress leaders had gathered as part of the two-day event. He was immediately taken to Zydus Hospital for treatment.
Chidambaram’s son, MP Karti Chidambaram, confirmed the incident on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “My father @PChidambaram_IN had an episode of presyncope due to extreme heat & dehydration in Ahmedabad & is under observation in Zydus Hospital. The doctors are reviewing his parameters which are currently normal.”

Doctors at Zydus Hospital said the 79-year-old’s condition had stabilised but he would remain under observation overnight as a precaution.
“He is in an overall stable condition, but we will keep him under observation overnight. People accompanying him said he had fainted, but when he arrived at the hospital, he was absolutely fine. We are conducting further tests to determine the exact cause,” Dr Ketan Patel, Head of Emergency Medicine at Zydus Hospital, told The Indian Express.
