Ailing minister returns home after 3 months

Minister of State for Labour and Employment and Koli strongman from Saurashtra Purushottam Solanki returned to his hometown,Bhavnagar,on Sunday morning after battling a prolonged illness of three months.

Solanki landed at Bhavnagar airport on Sunday morning amid a rousing welcome by party workers and supporters. A public meeting was organised on an open plot near his residence on Talaja Road.

“It has been a long time since I was in my constituency. Though I am not fully fit,I would like to be among my supporters during Navratri and other festivals,” Solanki told The Indian Express.

Solanki said that during his meeting with Narendra Modi in Gandhinagar on Thursday, the Chief Minister had asked him to work for the 2014 elections. With a strong support base in his Koli community,Solanki (51) had defeated then Congress Legislature Party leader Shaktisinh Gohil in a high-profile contest for Bhavnagar Rural seat in December 2012 Assembly elections. However,a fall leading to brain haemorrhage spoiled his victory party. Suffering from pancreatic problems and high blood sugar levels,Solanki was hospitalised three months ago and was rarely seen in public.
