TWO MEN were arrested from Rajasthan in connection with an alleged hit-and-run case that took place in Ahmedabad, said police on Thursday.

The Ahmedabad Police brought the two men — one of whom allegedly hit six people with his car and the other his accomplice — back from Rajasthan. The accused had allegedly threatened the families of the accident victims to withdraw their complaint, said sources.

The police identified the accused as Himmatsinh alias Karansinh Bhursinh Rajput and Tarun Ishwar Shukla. Both were arrested from Udaipur and brought back to Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

While Rajput was allegedly the driver who attempted to “run over” six people in a fight, Shukla had allegedly threatened their families, according to the police.

The incident had taken place around 10:30 pm on March 30 when a group of people allegedly had a disagreement over a debt of Rs 1,000. The accused Rajput had allegedly started his car and reversed it at full speed, allegedly hitting Vijay Padmashali and Hiten Harshad Parmar, said police. While Vijay got a fracture in his left leg, Hiten suffered minor injuries, said police.

A statement from the ‘H’ Division Traffic police said Rajput then allegedly took his car forward, made a turn, and then again drove the vehicle at full speed towards the other people standing there — allegedly ramming it into four other people, including Rajansinh Rajput (the complainant), Rohitsinh Rajput, Mohit Rajput, and Kalpesh Parmar. All the victims suffered injuries. The accused then fled the scene, said the police statement.

The ‘H’ Division Traffic police filed an FIR into the matter and started their investigation. Police came to know Rajput’s identity, and that he was a resident of Ahmedabad’s Bapunagar area. When officials attempted to search for the accused at his residence, he was not found.

Rajput had allegedly absconded to Udaipur city in Rajasthan with the same car to evade police arrest, said sources. It was from there that Shukla allegedly called the families of the victims, according to the police.

A separate FIR of criminal intimidation has also been filed at Bapunagar police station.

‘H’ Division Traffic police gathered information about their whereabouts, subsequently leading to their arrests, said police.
