Don't let others deceive you," she said. She urged people to elect a government for themselves. "It is your country. It is your responsibility to protect it," she said.

Addressing the public of Uttar Pradesh while on her Ganga Yatra, Priyanka Gandhi urged the people to vote for Congress for a better India. When asked to comment on PM Modi's decision to add 'Chowkidar' in his Twitter handle,  Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said it is his own wish. She also mentioned that once a farmer had told her, only rich people can afford chowkidar (watchman). For poor people like them, they are their own chowkidar.

Notification for first phase of LS polls issued

Notification for the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections was issued on Monday, setting in motion the high-voltage electoral battle where the BJP seeks to return to power amid opposition's efforts to present a united fight to unseat it.

Polling would be held in 91 parliamentary constituencies spread across 20 states on April 11 under the first of the seven-phase general elections.

The Election Commission Monday issued a notification signed by President Ram Nath Kovind for the first phase of the election.
With the issuance of the notification, the nomination process has begun which would continue till March 25. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on March 26 and the last days of withdrawing nominations is March 28. (PTI)

Congress absolutely free to contest on all seats in UP: Mayawati

Congress party is absolutely free to contest the Lok Sabha elections on all 80 seats independently in UP, BSP supremo Mayawati said on Monday.

"Our alliance formed here (with SP) is strong enough to defeat BJP. Congress must not spread wrong impression by leaving 7 seats vacant in UP for SP, BSP and RLD," she said, news agency ANI reported.

Earlier, Congress party on Sunday decided to leave seven Parliamentary seats in Uttar Pradesh for the SP-BSP-RLD alliance.

Nomination process for LS polls begins in UP's Muzaffarnagar

The process of filing nominations for the Lok Sabha elections began in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar, news agency PTI reported.

Lok Sabha Elections 2019: On Sunday, before starting her campaign from Prayagraj, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, wrote an open letter to the people of the state saying that she would take the help of “Gangaji” (Ganga River) to reach their doorsteps and establish “saccha samvaad” (truthful dialogue) to bring “political change”.

Referring to the Ganga River as the symbol of “Sacchayi” (truth) and “Sammanata” (equality) and also symbol of our “Ganga-Jamuni culture”, Priyanka said she was taking the river’s help to reach to the people.

She will also meet family members of martyred CRPF jawan Mahesh Raj Yadav in Prayagraj, and on March 20 the ancestral house of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in Varanasi.
