Turkey’s coup attempt: How twitter reacted to military’s attempt to seize control in the country

Broadcaster NTV reported that both of Istanbul's bridges across the Bosphorus, the strait separating the European and Asian sides of the city, had been closed to traffic

Gunshots were heard in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Friday, a Reuters witness said, as military jets and helicopters were seen flying overhead.

Turkey’s Prime Minister says a group within Turkey’s military has engaged in what appeared to be an attempted coup. Binali Yildirim told NTV television, “It is correct that there was an attempt.”

Turkish President Erdogan urged people to come out of their homes on the streets to defy the army.

As soon as the news about a possible coup in Turkey broke out, Twitter went berserk, with everyone sharing their opinions on the events happening around the country.
