Donald Trump’s presidential campaign revealed on Saturday that it had fallen victim to a hack targeting its internal communications, accusing the Iranian government of being responsible.

Although no concrete evidence was provided to support this claim, the campaign cited the long-standing tensions between Trump and Iran as the motivation behind the alleged cyberattack.

A report by Microsoft researchers on Friday revealed that hackers tied to the Iranian government attempted to hack the account of a senior official in a US presidential campaign in June. However, the official’s identity remains undisclosed, According to Reuters.

“The Iranians are well aware that President Trump will put an end to their reign of terror, just as he did during his first term in the White House,” Cheung said, referencing the tense relations between Trump and Iran, marked by the US strike that killed Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani in 2020 and the US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal, as reported by Reuters.

In July, Trump survived an assassination attempt. Although there have been no indications that the suspect was connected to Iran, CNN reported last month that US intelligence had uncovered an Iranian plot against Trump. Iran has denied these allegations.
