The cover of Time Magazine has again become a talking point of the town as it featured billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk in its latest edition, but with a catch as he was shown sitting behind the Resolute Desk as president of the United States.

The current edition of the fortnightly magazine, which has been known historically for featuring significant covers, comes when US President Donald Trump appointed Elon Musk to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) which is tasked to reduce fraudulent federal spending.

President Trump took a swipe at the magazine’s cover when asked by a reporter about Musk featuring in it while sitting behind the Resolute Desk. Trump asked whether the magazine was “still in business” and claimed that he hadn’t seen the latest issue of the magazine.

Trump’s dig at the Time Magazine cover comes at a time when he boasted about him getting named as the Person of the Year 2024 by Time after winning the 2024 US presidential election.

Trump first became the Time Magazine’s Person of the Year in 2016 after defeating Hillary Clinton in the US polls.

The controversial cover features Elon Musk sitting behind the Resolute Desk with coffee in hand, sandwiched between the presidential desk and the American and presidential flags. The cover has a red backdrop.

The Time magazine cover accompanies a piece from Simon Schuster and Brian Bennett who wrote, “So far, Musk appears accountable to no one but President Trump, who handed his campaign benefactor a sweeping mandate to bring the government in line with his agenda.”
