Iran accuses US, Israel of provoking war
During his remarks, Iravani accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of influencing US President Donald Trump to act on behalf of Western interests, dragging the United States into what he called “another costly and baseless war.”
He described the strikes as part of an aggressive campaign led by both the US and Israel, calling it a “clear and flagrant breach of international law.” According to The Associated Press (AP), he said:
“Iran had repeatedly warned the warmongering US regime to refrain from stumbling into this quagmire.”
Iravani noted that just as Iran’s foreign minister had been engaged in diplomatic talks with European counterparts, the US opted to launch the strikes. As per AP, He added:
“From the perspective of Western countries, Iran must ‘return to the negotiating table… But as Iran’s foreign minister mentioned, how can Iran return to something it never left — let alone.”
The emergency UN Security Council session was convened following the US strikes. While the US has claimed its actions were aimed at halting Iran’s nuclear ambitions, Tehran maintains that its program is peaceful and argues that the strikes are unjustified.
