Hemant Mistry, a 59-year-old Indian-American, was killed after being punched by a stranger in a motel parking lot in Oklahoma.
According to Oklahoma Police, they responded to an assault case at a motel on I-40 Service Road around 10 pm on Saturday (local time).
Upon arrival, officers discovered that Mistry, the motel manager, had asked 41-year-old Richard Lewis to leave the motel property, after which Lewis allegedly punched him once, causing him to lose consciousness. The assault was caught on CCTV footage which has been shared widely on social media.
Mistry was immediately hospitalised but succumbed to his injuries the following day, the police said.
According to Gujarat Samachar, a regional language daily, Mistry was a native of Bilimora in Navsari district.
The accused was located and arrested at a hotel on the 1900 block of S Meridian Avenue. The investigation is currently in its early stages, police stated.
