Inderpal Singh, the Sikh youth who was sitting on the canal embankment, on spotting the drowning youths immediately took off his turban to save the life of those drowning. He hurled his turban towards them and pulled them out with its help. Setting aside the religious code, this young man has set the new norms of humanity.

Under the tenets of Sikhism, turban can only be removed at home, during a bath. In May, a similar incident took place where a Sikh youth in New Zealand, Harman Singh, used his turban to bind the wounds of a young boy who had been hit by a car.
