The security detail of US President-elect Donald Trump now includes robotic dogs.
Following his 2024 presidential election victory, the security presence around Trump’s luxury resort Mar-a-Lago and his Palm Beach home in Florida, US, was heightened, Reuters reported.
Now, a video of a robotic dog patrolling the Trump-owned locations has gone viral on social media platforms such as X and TikTok. The video shows a white-and-black robotic dog pacing around with a camera mounted on its back as well as a sign with cautionary words: “Do Not Pet”.
The robotic dogs, which have reportedly been developed by US-based Boston Dynamics, are considered to be assets of the US Secret Service, a federal agency tasked with protecting the president as well as other important leaders in the country.
“Safeguarding the President-elect is a top priority. […] While we cannot get into the specific capabilities, the robotic dogs are equipped with surveillance technology, and an array of advanced sensors that support our protective operations,” Anthony Guglielmi, the Secret Service chief of communications, was quoted as saying by USA Today.
Earlier this year, Trump survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally held in Pennsylvania, US, when a bullet whizzed through his ear, injuring it. One attendee was killed in the incident, and the shooter was gunned down by a US Secret Service agent.
A few months later, another attempt on the former president’s life was reportedly thwarted after a Secret Service agent opened fire upon spotting a gun barrel appearing out of the bushes while Trump played golf at his golf club in Florida.
