Apple has published the list of best apps and games for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, and Apple TV for 2023. Cupertino has recognised 14 apps and games from developers across the world and the winners have been hand-picked by App Store’s editorial team from the list of 40 finalists.
“It’s inspiring to see the ways developers continue to build incredible apps and games that are redefining the world around us. This year’s winners represent the limitless potential of developers to bring their visions to life, creating apps and games with remarkable ingenuity, exceptional quality, and purpose-driven missions,” says Apple CEO Tim Cook.

AllTrails has been named the iPhone app of the year for 2023. This is a free-to-use app for hikers, bikers, and runners, available for both iPhone and Apple Watch, which allows users to find detailed reviews on trails and also helps users plan for upcoming adventures. Users can also pay for the AllTrails+ and AllTrails Pro versions to experience more features.
Prêt-à-Makeup is the iPad app of the year for 2023, which is also available for iPhone. This app is designed for users to try out over 700 beauty products on a digital canvas with realistic looks. It offers over 40 face templates along with real-sketching experience and it is compatible with Apple Pencil.
The Mac app of the year award goes to Photomator, a photo editing tool, available for Mac, iPad, and iPhone. The app allows users to adjust the colours and lighting, and it also uses AI to finetune the pictures. The app is also compatible with over 650 RAW image formats, including Apple ProRAW and it also supports batch editing of RAW format images.
MUBI, the cinema streaming platform gets the Apple TV app of the year award. Available on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV, this streaming platform offers hand-picked movies with in-depth content from artists across the world. The app comes with a monthly subscription plan and first-time users can experience MUBI for free for a week.
SmartGym: Gym & Home Workouts is the app of the year for Apple Watch, which is also available for Mac, iPhone, and iPad. This app allows users to log their workouts and uses artificial intelligence and professionals to create personally curated workouts with over 620 pre-installed exercises on Apple Watch, the app offers real-time heart rate monitoring, counting of session data towards activity ring, and it works as a standalone app and works even without an iPhone.
Honkai: Star Rai, the popular fantasy RPG has been named as the iPhone game of the year, which is also available for iPad. This free-to-play adventure game offers immersive adventure with online multiplayer support. The game allows users to explore distinct words by following the path once travelled by Aeons.
Lost in Play by Snapbreak Games is iPad's 2023 game of the year, which is also available on iPhone. This simple free adventure game revolves around an adventure to help a brother and sister find their way home by solving puzzles and escaping from the horned beast and quirky goblins.
While Macs aren't known for gaming, it is getting better with the launch of M3 MacBook Pros, and Lies of P by NEOWIZ has been named the Mac game of the year, a game about a puppet created by Geppetto caught in a web of lies, monsters, and untrustworthy figures.
