During the Fight of the Century, Periscope turned out to be the most trending topic. Periscope was widely used to stream the pay-per-view match across the world. And now Benguluru Police Commissioner MN Reddi wants to use Persicope to stream crimes around the city. He wants citizens to stream videos, from which the control room would easily get the location and alert the jurisdictional police.
MN Reddi earlier made entire city police force to join Twitter. With Periscope finally available for Android, the police commissioner’s plan can catch up with the citizens of Bengaluru. Android dominates the smartphone market share in our country and availability of cheaper data plans and faster connection can surely make live streaming crimes a reality in nearer future. It needs to be noted that still a large working section of Indian population can’t afford smartphone or good data plan.
Initially Bengaluru Police Commsissioner plans to use Periscope for broadcasting press conferences. Reddi told ET “During our press conferences, we’d like to use Periscope so that people can see it happening. They can send comments and interact with us live.” Currently Reddi has 2.90 lakh followers on Twitter and has been very actively tweeting developments in police department.
According to ET, MN Reddi got the idea of Periscope during a Twitter conference held in Mumbai. “At the conference organised by Twitter, there was a discussion on Periscope. I thought we can try it out. If the number of people following on Periscope increases, it’ll be useful for us to directly interact with the public,” Reddi said.
If Reddi succeeds in executing his plans then every smartphone will turn into a remote surveillance system and would really help bring crimes down real time.
