ZTE announced its latest flip-style foldable, the Libera Flip, featuring a circular outer display reminiscent of the Tecno Phantom V flip. Priced at 62,999 Yen or approximately Rs 34,819, it currently stands as the most affordable foldable in the world. Users who pre-order can secure it for as low as 39,800 Yen or about Rs 21,990, making it four times cheaper than the most popular flip phone — Galaxy Z Flip5 (review). The device will be available for purchase in Japan via Y!mobile starting February 29.
The ZTE Libera Flip is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, paired with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. It boasts a 6.9-inch foldable OLED screen with FHD+ resolution and a secondary 1.43-inch circular cover display supporting touch input, which doubles as a camera viewfinder.
Available in three colours, the smartphone features a glass back and a metal frame. Despite its slim profile of just 7.3mm when unfolded, it houses a 4,310 mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging via USB-C, which is much bigger than the one on Galaxy Z Flip5. The device runs on Android 13 with a custom skin layered on top. In terms of photography, the rear camera setup comprises a 50 MP primary sensor and a 2 MP depth sensor, while there’s a 16 MP selfie camera on the inside. It also holds an IP42 certification for water and dust resistance.
While Samsung currently dominates the foldable market with its flip and fold-style smartphones, other Chinese brands like Oppo, Vivo, Huawei, and Honor are also offering compelling foldable, albeit mostly limited to markets like China. Additionally, brands like OnePlus and Google distribute their foldable smartphones across several markets.
