Sony launches PlayStation VR2 headset in India, and it’s not cheap

Sony's PlayStation VR2 offers 4K resolution per eye and has four cameras that can track the wearer's eye movements. However, unlike Meta's latest standalone offering, it needs to be connected to a PlayStation 5 to work.

Almost a year after its global launch, Sony is bringing its second-generation Virtual Reality headset – the PlayStation VR2 to India. The company’s latest headset offers a 4K HDR resolution (2000×2040 per eye) and an OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Similar to its previous iteration, the PS VR2 comes with a headset band that can be adjusted to make the headset fit closer or farther away from the face. Sony has also added a new lens adjustment dial, vibration feedback, and advanced haptics for controllers.

Moreover, the company added a new lens adjustment dial for comfortable viewing and a 110-degree field of view, foveated rendering, an eye-tracking technology that can help reduce the rendering workload by slightly reducing the quality of images outside the wearer’s view.

The PS VR2 features four tracking cameras and a passthrough mode that lets you see what’s happening around you, but unlike Meta’s standalone headset, it requires a PlayStation 5 that can be connected via a USB Type-C port.

Available for purchase via e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Reliance Digital, Croma and ShopAtSC, the PlayStation  VR2 can be purchased for Rs 57,990, which is more than the PlayStation 5 itself.

Interested gamers can also opt for the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle, which comes with a copy of the latest VR Game in addition to the headset. It is priced at Rs 61,999.
