On Friday, Disney+ Hotstar became the first streamer to stream live sports in Dolby Vision in India for cricket, in the world. The streaming service has announced that for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, all matches, Super 8s, semi-finals, and finals will be streamed live in Dolby Vision on Disney+ Hotstar.
It needs to be noted that only Premium subscribers will be able to enjoy Dolby Vision while watching the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. According to the company, cricket fans can experience every heart-stopping, nail-biting moment of the game in the lifelike colours, sharp contrast, and rich details of Dolby Vision.
“We are delighted to introduce Dolby Vision for our Premium-only users to experience the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 on their screens like never before. Our collaboration with Dolby marks a significant step for sports streaming in India; and sets a new precedence towards our efforts in offering the best in entertainment and technology,” said Mukund Acharya, head of engineering, Disney+ Hotstar.
With Dolby Vision users will be able to see sharper contrast richer colours and greater details. The technology, at present, will be the USP for Disney+ Hotstar’s Premium-only subscription.
The company said that only select 4K-enabled Smart TVs that support Dolby Vision will be able to stream these matches. Disney+ Hotstar has been innovating and leading the way in offering exceptional entertainment experiences, and the addition of Dolby Vision for live cricket streaming is a testament to this commitment.
Dolby Vision, developed by Dolby Laboratories, offers high dynamic range (HDR) video. First introduced in 2014, Dolby Vision allows maximum resolution of 8K, up to 12-bit colour depth, and a maximum peak brightness 10,000 nits.
