IPL 2023: When the cricket fraternity is still divided over the run-out at the non-striker end, England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes proposed an interesting idea to keep the batters under check if they are trying to gain an unfair advantage.
The last-ball drama between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants has sparked the debate again.
Needing five off Harshal Patel’s last over, Lucknow lost the wickets of Mark Wood and Jaydev Unadkat and needed one run from the final ball with one wicket left.

Patel missed an opportunity to run out Ravi Bishnoi at the non-striker’s end which could have thrown the game into the super over but they had to bowl the final delivery again.
“Umpires discretion.. 6 penalty runs if obviously trying to gain unfair advantage by leaving crease early? Would stop batters doing it without all the controversy,” Stokes wrote on Twitter.
The last-wicket pair of Avesh Khan and Bishnoi scampered for a bye as wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik couldn’t gather the ball cleanly.
Nicholas Pooran smashed a match-winning 19-ball 62 while Marcus Stoinis made 65 as LSG prevailed over RCB by one wicket in a last-ball thriller.
Chasing 213, LSG rode on Pooran and Stoinis’ brilliance to eke out a memorable win.
Pooran recorded the season’s fastest fifty, reaching the landmark in only 15 balls.
Earlier, captain Faf Du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell smashed blistering half-centuries as RCB posted an imposing 212 for two after being sent into bat.
