Lucknow Super Giants speedster Mayank Yadav claimed the wickets of Glenn Maxwell, Cam Green and Rajat Patidar on Tuesday as LSG defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. But what stood out was that he bowled the fastest ball of IPL 2024: a thunderbolt measuring 156.7 kph.
Mayank has already risen to the second spot in the IPL 2024 Purple Cap standings, taking six wickets in two games. The rest of the top 5 in the Purple Cap race have bowled in three games.
Mayank rattled the stumps of Cameron Green in the game against RCB with a scorcher.
The ball raced away to the boundary after hitting the woodwork. While the Australian batter was shocked, the Chinnaswamy was stunned into silence. Mayank then also got the better of Maxwell, his pace forcing the Australian to hand an easy catch at mid on. LSG won the game by 28 runs while Mayank ended with figures of 4/14.
“I feel very good, winning two Player Of The Match awards, but I am happier that we won both the matches. My aim is to play for India as much as possible. So I feel this is just the start and my main goal is what I am focussed on,” Mayank said at the post-match presentation.
When asked about his favourote wicket of the night against RCB, Mayank said: “Cameron Green’s. I think to bowl at this speed, a lot of things are important. Diet, sleep, training. If you bowl fast, you have to be perfect in a lot of things. So right now I focus a lot on my diet and recovery.”
Thanks to the 156.7 kph ball, Mayank now becomes the fastest bowler ever in the IPL.
Nandre Burger, with a top speed of 153.0, is the second fastest bowler in the IPL this season so far.
In LSG’s first game of IPL 2024 too, Mayank had made headlines by firing nine scorching balls that measured over 150 kph. In that game, he had picked up three crucial wickets while conceding only 27 runs. With his debut performance, Mayank had impressed two of the fastest bowlers in history: Brett Lee and Dale Steyn, who praised the young Indian pacer for his raw pace and potential.
