Victoria state wicketkeeper Sam Harper has spent a fourth day in an Adelaide hospital after being concussed when he was hit on the head by a bat during a domestic first-class match against South Australia.
In a statement Tuesday, Cricket Victoria said the 20-year-old Harper had been cleared of serious injury but was still “exhibiting symptoms” of concussion and will remain in the hospital to be reviewed by specialists.
Harper was standing up to the stumps to left-arm spinner Jon Holland on Saturday and moved to his right as left-handed South Australia batsman Jake Lehmann _ the son of Australia coach Darren Lehmann _ attempted a pull shot and accidentally struck the wicketkeeper in the follow through of his swing with the bat.
Harper immediately fell to the ground, holding both hands to the front of his protective helmet. He was helped from the field and taken to a nearby hospital.
Cricket Victoria said Harper was likely to be released later in the week and a decision on when he can return to cricket will be made after that.
