Pakistan Shaheens (Pakistan A) defeated Bangladesh A in a dramatic finale that went into the Super Over to clinch the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 title on Sunday. Chasing Pakistan’s total of 125 runs, Bangladesh had slumped to 53 for 7 at one stage. Even at the end of the 18th over, with just 12 balls to go, they were 99 for 9. But the 19th over from Shahid Aziz saw the last Bangladesh batting pair hit three sixes before the No. 10 and No. 11 batters for Bangladesh took the game into a Super Over.
Bangladesh A had managed to defeat India A in a Super Over as well. But on Sunday, in the final, their luck ran out as they could score just six runs batting first in the Super Over before losing both their wickets in just three balls. The bulk of their six runs came from a wide ball that ended up reaching the boundary ropes.
In reply, Pakistan chased down the target in just four balls to lift another Asia Cup Rising Stars title.
Ahmed Daniyal, who Pakistan had entrusted with the ball for the final over and then the Super Over, was named the Player of the Match while Pakistan’s Maaz Sadaqat was named the Player of the Series.
Talking about the dramatic turn of events in the Super Over, Daniyal said: “I had a plan and I was able to execute it well. When I bowled the first ball and when I tried to bowl a yorker on the second ball, it didn’t turn out right. After that, I wanted to keep it on a length as the ball was skidding through and I was able to knock over the batter. I talked to the captain and the coach that I will win the game for our team, I said that to them in the final stages of the game and also in the powerplay.”
Daniyal revealed that he was bowling with a slight injury at the end of the game.
“Injury doesn’t matter, we played well as a team and we have to perform. All the credit goes to the players as well. We trusted each other and that helped us all,” he said.
