MI vs LSG Highlights; IPL 2025: MI win five in a row; Bumrah stars with 4-for after SKY, Rickelton half centuries

Before the IPL 2025 season started, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka was making the rounds on the popular podcasters explaining his decision to break the bank in the IPL 2025 mega auction and buy Rishabh Pant for a record-breaking amount of Rs 27 crore. 

When asked by Raj Shamani on his Figuring Out podcast what the logic was for buying Rishabh Pant for Rs 27 crore, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka said: “If we wanted an Indian match-winner, there were four options available in the auction that were of that level. Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Yuzvendra Chahal. When you go into a mega-auction, you're looking for the long-term. Maybe 10 years. You’re looking for a younger player, relatively speaking! You’re looking for someone who has an X-factor. Rishabh has both.”

He also broke down the “science” behind spending that much for Pant.  

This season, Pant has only managed to score 106 runs off eight innings at an average of 13.25 and a strike rate of 96.36.

This is going to be a massive clash and could well be a critical fixture in determining the season's Top 2. 

RCB have won the toss in Delhi and have asked DC to bat first. FOLLOW LIVE HERE. 

MUMBAI INDIANS ON A ROLL. Boult strikes in the last over for his third wicket of the night as LSG are demolished well and truly today. The 19,000 kids in attendance for this special day would have enjoyed that MI performance. THEY HAVE WON FIVE IN A ROW.

After his cameo with the bat, Bosch also has a wicket to celebrate. Bishnoi will remember this innings for a couple of big sixes, especially the one off Bumrah,  but he can't do anything about that yorker. Bosch strikes just before the end of his spell. 

Ravi Bishnoi b Corbin Bosch 13 (14 balls) 

...and Prince sees it off! Oh that was another slower full ball that would have taken the stumps out but Prince carefully plays a defensive stroke to deny Boom his hat-trick. 

Will Boom get a five-for? Not to be tonight, as Bishnoi smashes the last ball for six. THAT IS SOME SHOT. That is something Bishnoi, his family and friends will remember for a while, quips Watto on air. But what a spell from Bumrah, finishes with 4/22. 

Well, for what it is worth, any runs from the lower order here could be handy in lowering the net run rate. Bishnoi heaves one over the square leg fence for a six of Bosch. But the other five deliveries are for planting trees. 

After the Miller dismissal, Bumrah has his tail up. 

TWO SENSATIONAL YORKERS. 

First, a slower offcutter that completely bamboozles Samad who is far too early into his shot. 

Next ball, a searing yorker to Avesh Khan. 

Timber on both occasions. 

It looked like Miller had got a hold of that. It was on his pads, there to be hit, Miller goes for it. But there is elevation and not enough distance. Bumrah has his 2nd and this chase is all but over.

After being a powerplay specialist in recent past, Boult has become an all-phase specialist this season. Another top over. 

Here comes Bumrah for his third. Samad and Miller in the middle. 

They were just showing replays of the missed chance for MI in the last over before the timeout. Badoni had attempted a lap scoop, and it seems there was an inside edge down the legside that MI didn't realise. But almost instantly, Badoni falls, as Boult strikes again. Out caught at point. Dug into the pitch by Boult, slower ball again, just guided to the fielder.

Bosch errs on his length while searching for a yorker, Miller powers one down the ground for four. A couple of doubles earlier in the over.

A 11-run over is not bad, but still below par for the course as we head into the last timeout. 

LSG need to go at nearly 14 an over from here. 

Well, hard to blame Surya for trying to attack that half chance, especially after he had taken that fine catch earlier to remove Pooran. But this is bit of a misjudgement as he rushes forward to a mishit from Miller and the ball bounces in front of him and then squeezes through for four. He looks bemused. Miller finishes the over with a lovely straight four. LSG need way more of those. 

Briefly, it felt like LSG were mounting a fightback but sometimes in these big runchases, one tight over is it takes to turn the momentum completely. Three runs and one wicket in that Boult over and MI are right on top. 

It's a change of pace, 116.6 kph from Boult, dug into the pitch and it produces a big breakthrough. Marsh attempts to pull it but can only find the fielder at deep square. Just when you thought LSG were landing a counterpunch. 

Mitchell Marsh c Tilak Varma b Trent Boult 34 (24 balls) 

Debutant Corbin Bosch comes on to bowl his first over. Played a good hand with the bat remember. He starts off the over quite well, but Badoni plays a lovely little dab behind the wickets for four to salvage something out of it. 

LSG need 107 off 9 overs, not out of it yet with Marsh and Badoni in, and Miller, Samad to come. 

Well, well. Just like that, there is another swing in momentum. Badoni has been playing little gems throughout this season, and he starts that Karn over with a superb 6. The next shot over extra cover for six is perhaps even better. Then he plays a cut shot for four, adjusting to the change of length smartly. Two big overs for LSG and they have crossed 100 at the halfway stage. 

This is not over yet. 

Tidy first over from Karn Sharma as he concdes just 5 runs. Badoni, LSG's crisis man this season, is the new batter in to join Marsh. 

Hardik is welcomed to the bowling attack with two fours by Marsh, superb timing through midwicket then a powerful square cut. 

WOW, WHERE DID THAT COME FROM! 

First ball, Nicholas Pooran... that's a big wicket. First ball out of the powerplay, Pooran hits to long off and SKY takes a fine diving catch. It ends what was promising to be a thriller of a knock.

Third ball, PANT FAILS AGAIN. Awful shot, and perhaps Sunil Gavaskar might have something to say. Reverse sweep off the second ball and he hits it straight to short third. 

Rishabh Pant c Karn Sharma b Will Jacks 4 (2 balls)

First six in four matches for Pooran! (We had that typed just before Ian Bishop mentioned on air.) And he makes it back-to-back. The region behind point is a short boundary, and Pooran has sliced twice over the fielder there for two sixes. Another point that Watto makes often and made it again here is why as a top order batter he liked when bowlers thrice in the powerplay.

Make it a hat-trick of sixes! POORAN IS BACK FOLKS! No sixes for three matches, three sixes in three balls today. 

Not often you see Jasprit taken down like that, reckons Watson on commentary. A massive six over midwicket, as Marsh picks up the length of that delivery quickly. Bumrah comes back well in that over, to limit the damage. 

Chahar will indeed bowl his third in the powerplay. 

A boundary for Marsh to start the fourth over, and then Pooran finishes the over with a four too as Chahar is off to an expensive start today. Will he again bowl three in the powerplay? Let's see. 

Suryakumar Yadav claimed the Orange Cap on Sunday after a 28-ball 54 against the Lucknow Super Giants in an IPL 2025 game at the Wankhede Stadium. Propelled by Surya’s blitz, Mumbai set a target of 216 runs. 

Surya’s knock throws down the gauntlet to the other pursuers of the Orange Cap, like Nicholas Pooran who is currently batting for LSG (currently fourth in the standings with 377 runs from nine innings) and  Virat Kohli, who is third in the race with 392 runs and will be in action later today when Royal Challengers Bengaluru face Delhi Capitals.

Surya has scored 427 runs in 10 innings in IPL 2025.

“It’s the first time I am wearing this (Orange Cap) after a long time, feels really special,” he told the broadcasters JioHotstar in the mid-innings break with a wide smile.

Three dot balls to start off the third over, and then he has induced a false shot from Markram down the leg side. Not the best balls he'd have bowled for a wicket, it was there to be hit but the LSG opener finds the fielder at long leg. Pooran is in at No 3, and that is just a 2-run over. 

Aiden Markram c Naman Dhir b Jasprit Bumrah 9 (11 balls)

Deepak Chahar is welcomed with a big six at the start of the 2nd over by Mitch Marsh. Next ball is a no ball from Chahar, but the free hit doesn't prove costly. The pacer actually closes out the over pretty decently, that could have been gone for more. 

Bumrah comes in to bowl the third over. 

A slow start for Lucknow Super Giants in that first over from Trnet Boult. And then suddenly bang, bang goes Aiden Markram without warning, who hits two boundaries off consecutive balls front of point.

LSG's chase is off with nine runs off the first over. Ball coming on to the bat nicely. And Markram seems to be in fine form. LSG will need him to be, if they have to have a sliver of a hope to chase this down. 

Suryakumar's ridiculously consistent run in this tournament now sees him go top of the Orange Cap leaderboard.

A brilliant 11-ball 25 from Naman Dhir, as he finishes the innings with a terrific six, sweeping it over short-fine leg for a six. That was shaping into a good final over from Avesh and then Naman does that. 

Mumbai Indians post 215/7 in 20 overs

That's a decent job well done on debut by Corbin Bosch. A brilliant slice over the field on the offside for a four early in that Avesh over. But he is out caught at long on as he tried to go for a big one.

LSG's woes mount. They have taken too long to complete this innings and for the last over, they face the fielding penalty. 

The decision to give the 19th over to Digvesh Rathi backfires big time! A six over long on for Naman Dhir and a HUGE six from the debutant Corbin Bosch. The over started with a four for Bosch as well. Just when you thought MI were being pulled back, the big over takes MI past 200 with an over to spare. 

So much happened in that over. SKY reached a stunning 27-ball half century with a six off Avesh Khan, celebrated the milestone. But next ball, in the slot just out side off stump, SKY smashes it straight to the fielder at cover. He couldn't believe it. That dismissal could shave 15 runs off LSG's target. 

Suryakumar Yadav c Mitch Marsh b Avesh Khan 54 (28 balls)

Prince Yadav comes on for his last over and Naman Dhir helps himself to two fours off the first two balls, either side of the wicket. Grat timing on both occasions. Prince comes back well to limit the damage, finishes his spell with a perfect yorker that SKY just about keeps out. 

He has gone for a few runs today but finishes off with a tidy over, just 5 runs and a big wicket, that of Hardik Pandya. 

Meanwhile, Naman Dhir asked to change his bats after the one he walked out with didn't fit through the gauge. 

Was that a nice little variaton? It's around 135ks, so perhaps Hardik was expecting something express pace, while Mayank seems to have cut his fingers across it and the ball has seamed in. Hardik seemed to be early into the shot as well. 

Mayank has gone for some runs today, the pace hasn't touched the highs of last season, but he has picked up two big wickets. Earlier, Rohit in the powerplay. Now back for his fourth over just after a break, he goes through Hardik's defence as well. BOWLED. 

Hardik Pandya b Mayank Yadav 5 (7 balls)

SKY shape up to play the sweep off Prince. The pacer does the right thing by shortening the length, the ball is going over SKY's helmet, and he almost hooks this for six! WHAT ON EARTH. Hardik is flabbergasted by that shot. As is Prince.

A delicious upper cut from SKY over short third for a four that brings up 4000 runs for him in IPL but apart from that good over by Avesh, as just 8 came off it. Hardik Pandya in the middle now. Can MI reach 200? 

Suryakumar is batting like a dream once again. He has yet again crossed the 25-tally this season, hasn't been dismissed for fewer than that. Stunning consistency. A six and four off Bishnoi, well played. But next ball, Bishnoi beats him with one that turns but the outside edge also goes for four. SKY, the Indian t20I captain, puts an arm around his spinner's shoulder. 

But there is something to celebrate for Bishnoi, Tilak falls later in the over, going for a big shot on the leg side. 

Tilak Varma c Prince Yadav b Ravi Bishnoi 6 (5 balls)

Just as he was starting to find a groove, Jacks' innings is cut short by a searing yorker from Prince Yadav. Lovely angle, zoning in on the shoes of the batter. Just a hint of reverse? There is some tail, reckons EOin Morgan. TIMBER! A similar delivery first up to new batter Tilak Varma but just on the filler side, flicked for four. 

Will Jacks b Prince Yadav 29 (21 balls)

Is that a miscalculation that is going to hurt LSG? Hard to say, but if Ayush Badoni was right on the fence at deep midwicket for that sweep from SKY, maybe he'd have had a chance to catch that. As such, it is another six for SKY, with that wonderful wristwork of his to give the sweep shot the perfect elevation. 

Pant brings back Mayank with SKY coming out to the middle. A rusty pacer against the in-form MI batter... SKY plays a stylish lofted off drive for four. Jacks then plays a smart late cut for four and helps himself a six over square leg, just about clearing the fielder. MI keep the foot on the pedal. 

No, not the kind that would get hin in trouble. It's the newly modified signature onto the turf that he's been doing. A big wicket for LSG because this match was running away from them quickly. Rickelton falls trying to go for a big shot over the offside. 

Ryan Rickelton c Ayush Badoni b Digvesh Rathi 58 (32 balls)

It's been a slow start from Will Jacks, but he has had the cushion of Rickelton in great tcuch at the other end. But the Englishman finds his groove too with a couple of boundaries in Avesh Khan's first over. The second one a gift of a full toss, the first hit nicely over cover. 

That is a rather sensational half century. Rickelton has impressed in flashes so far in this tournament, but today he has batted like he has finally settled in at the Wankhede Stadium. Minimum fuss, maximum output. When RR was signed up by MI, the sentiment was that he would fit right in for the Wankhede pitch. That cut shot by him for four in that Bishnoi over was another example. 

A second over for Digvesh Rathi in the powerplay and boy has Rickelton latched on here! Two HUGE sixes over deep midwicket, superbly timed slog sweeps. The sound off the bat was so good. Between those two sixes, a misfield from Pooran gifts him a four. Long chat between bowler and captain before the last ball of the powerplay. Most expensive over bowled by Digvesh so far in IPL 2025, informs Ian Bishop.

That's a superb powerplay for MI. 66/1, going at 11 per over.

A right-arm fast bowler and right-handed middle-order batter, Corbin has played 86 T20 having taken 59 wickets and a batting high score of 81. Corbin was a part of the victorious Proteas' U-19 side that lifted the World Cup in 2014 and was also the player of the match in the finals producing a magnificent spell of 4/15. He has been a regular across formats for his domestic team and made his debut for Proteas in 2024.

Corbin played a key role in MI Cape Town’s title winning 2025 season in SA20 picking 11 wickets in the title winning campaign.

That's a lovely shot, all timing, down the ground with a semi slog sweep for six off Bishnoi, That run-out opportunity (despite Markram's best efforts) is coming back to haunt LSG. 

That was a celebratory-appeal from Rishabh Pant, as Jacks misses another sweep and this time the ball is coming in from Bishnoi. The bowler is obviously excited but as is Pant who feels this is in line. But the impact is outside the offstump. Not as bad as the review the other night from Pant, but that is another one lost. 

Digvesh Rathi has been bowling an over in the powerplay consistently and been keeping things largely light if memory serves us right. This is shaping into another good over, with some spin on offer. Will Jacks misses the ball going for a sweep by some distance. Last ball of the over, Rickelton hits a four, good effort by Markram at long off but despite the dive, the ball trickles underneath him. 

Interesting, a second over for Mayank Yadav within the powerplay. Not so much of an enforcer role today then. Rohit Sharma finally gets to face a ball and the first legal delivery he faces is a swivel pull for six! Using the pace from Mayank, just helps it along the way. Just sheer timing. Follows that up with a stunning pull for another six! Both 141ks, Rohit enjoying the speed and the length! What a shot. 

Mayank goes fuller next delivery, good correction. And off the fifth delivery, Mayank gets his man! It's just a cameo today for Rohit, as he goes chasing at a wide one and cuts it to short third. Joy for Mayank! 

Rohit Sharma c Prince Yadav b Mayank Yadav 12 (5 balls)

SO CLOSE! WOW. Rickelton takes off after tapping the ball to point, Rohit sends him back, and the batter has given up here. Just needed a direct hit from Markram, who takes aim and almost shaves the stumps from the side on angle! Couldn't have been closer. Next ball, Rickelton smashes a six to rub salt into LSG wounds. Rickelton hits a four down the ground, then lofts one over mid on. Has decided perhaps there is no need to run here, hah! Nearly plays one on to the stumps off the last ball. 

Eventful over from Prince Yadav. 

A 141.3 kph delivery first up from Mayank Yadav. Nice rhythm, a little bit of shape in back to the left-handed Rickelton. 

141, 142, 143 with the first three balls. There is a little bit of spongy bounce it looks like, a bouncer almost looped over Rickelton's heads, didn't zip through. The South African gets going with an off drive for four. It's a tidy start from Mayank though. 

Well, well. The first over will be bowled by Mayank Yadav. 

Heat in the heat! Here we go. 

Last year, LSG used him largely as a middle-overs enforcer. He is replacing Shardul in the XI today, so perhaps an over in the powerplay for him? 

Rohit and Rickelton are in the middle. As expected some banter between Rishabh and Rohit as they get together in the middle. 

The last Sunday there was a match at Wankhede, it was a mix of blue and yellow as MI played CSK. Today, with the ESA initiative bringing in apparently 19,000 children to the stands, it is a proper sea of blue.

MAYANK YADAV IS BACK! Well, that adds a few degrees to the afternoon heat. The rapid Mayank turned a lot of heads last IPL but has been laid low by injuries since then. He is back in the XI for LSG, replacing Shardul Thakur it seems. Confirmed XIs coming up.
