We know that it’s going to change the game massively, not just in India but all over the world," said Rodrigues.

One of the iconic innings of the recently concluded Women’s World Cup 2025 came from the bat of Jemimah Rodrigues when she scored 127 runs from 134 balls to take India to an unlikely win in the semifinals against Australia in Mumbai. India then went on to win the World Cup. Jemimah has made her appearance in the Women’s Big Bash League for the Brisbane Heat on Sunday.

Speaking on a light-hearted note, Jemimah said she was not sure if she would be allowed to cross the Australian border after her match-winning performance against Australia, which saw the seven-time champions out of the competition.

“I was not sure if Australia would allow me to cross the border after the semifinals. But honestly, everyone has been so warm and welcoming, and everyone is so happy in general for the growth of women’s cricket. We know that it’s going to change the game massively, not just in India but all over the world,” said Rodrigues on the sidelines of BBL.

Jemimah has shared how Australian star all-rounder Annabel Sutherland texted her post the semi-final win and lauded her efforts.

“After the game, it was heartbreaking for them to lose a semi-final. I know how much it means to Bellsy (Annabel) and how much she loves her cricket, even though she doesn’t always show it. She messaged me saying, ‘The character you’ve shown throughout this tournament has been outstanding. You totally deserve to own that moment tonight.’ I looked at that message and thought, what a person! They had just suffered the most heartbreaking loss, yet she still reached out to a friend to encourage me, even though we were opponents at that moment. I have mad respect for her,” Rodrigues said in a video posted by WPL side Delhi Capitals.

Harmanpreet Kaur led the Indian team’s win over South Africa in the final last Sunday.
