Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the disqualification of Congress leader and brother Rahul Gandhi as Lok Sabha MP, following his conviction in a defamation case over his 2019 remark and sentencing for two years.
In another tweet, she said, “You insulted my whole family and the Kashmiri Pandit community by asking him why they don’t use the Nehru surname. But no judge sentenced you to two years and did not disqualify you from Parliament. Like a true patriot, Rahul ji questioned Adani’s loot… raised questions about Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi… Has your friend Gautam Adani become bigger than Parliament and the great people of India that you were shocked when his loot was questioned? You call my family dynasts. Know this: my family has made sacrifices and shed blood for Indian democracy, which you are trying to destroy.”
Priyanka went on to add, “This family has raised the voice of the people of India and fought for truth for generations. The blood that runs in our veins has one unique feature. We have never bowed down before a coward, power-hungry dictator like you and will never bow down. Do what you want.”
Earlier, Priyanka referred to economic offenders such as Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Lalit Modi, and said despite the massive amounts of fraud they are accused of, the investigations against them were stalled. “Why has the BJP come to the rescue of those who looted the country’s money?” she alleged. “Why are we running away from an investigation? But cases are brought against those who are raising questions about this. Does BJP support the corrupt?”
