After AIADMK and BJD,it is Samajwadi Party who said that NCP supremo Sharad Pawar is qualified to become Prime Minister. “NCP is expected to win at least 15 of 21 seats in Maharashtra,” SP General Secretary Amar Singh said adding his party would extend support to Pawar as Prime Ministerial candidate.
“Nobody can become Prime Minister with support of 15 MPs. But Pawar is one such person who has friends and supporters in all political parties,” Singh said during a roadshow in Mumbai’s South parliamentary constituency in Mumbai.
“If I K Gujral can become Prime Minister without support of his own MPs,then Pawar can do anything. We support him,” he said.
NCP which is in alliance with Congress in Maharashtra has fielded candidates in 21 seats while Congress is contesting in 25 seats. Both have left a seat each from their quota to RPI.
Samajwadi Party’s support to Pawar came after AIADMK chief Jayalalitha said she was ready to back him as PM since he was mature and sincere. Orissa Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik has also said that he was open to backing Pawar’s candidature as Prime Minister.
Singh claimed that despite being in alliance with Congress,Pawar was supporting Samajwadi Party in the ten seats it was contesting in Maharashtra.
