Narendra Dabholkar’s killing shocks Pune,parties call for bandh today

Social organisations,in a press statement,has said that college students would take part in the rally in a bid to carry forward Dabholkar’s movement.

Workers of political parties too would join the rally at the PMC headquarters.

“The killing of Dabholkar is shocking as the he has been fighting to get a law against black magic and superstition. It was the failure of the government that it could not get it the bill cleared in the Assembly even after several years. The state government should get the law in place to pay an apt homage to Dabholkar,” said city MNS chief Prakash Dhore while extending the party’s support to the bandh.

‘This is the price a social reformer has to pay’

Shiv Sena leader in PMC Ashok Harnaval said his party would also take part in the bandh to condemn Dabholkar’s killing. NCP spokesperson Ankush Kakade said the killing of Dabholkar,a reformist,was an act of shame.

“The state cannot forget the contribution of Dabholkar to society. The NCP will also be part of the bandh to condemn the killing,” he said.

City NCP chief and Rajya Sabha MP Vandana Chavan said his death is a blow to progressive thoughts. “He worked towards making the state free of superstitions and end exploitation of women. His killing will not bring an end to the progressive thinking of the activist,” she said.

City MP Suresh Kalmadi said the entire state was shocked. “The activist dedicated his entire life for eradication of superstition and carried out reforms movement to achieve the goal. He was fearless and learned activist,” he said.

City Congress chief Abhay Chhajed said his party too would support the bandh.
