The Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has now taken offence to the prime time screening of non- Marathi films in theatres.
The party wants theatres to assign prime time slots, from 6 pm to 9 pm, to Marathi films.
“We have told theatres that they should give preference to Marathi films during prime time. In south India, films from the region are given preference. The same should happen in Maharashtra,” Ameya Khopkar, president of MNS Cine Workers Wing said.

Khopkar added that the party was not against screening other regional films in the theatres, but was seeking preferential space allotment for Marathi movies.
Last week, the party had staged a protest against a movie hall in Borivali that had screened a Gujarati film. ens
