Boatman, weaver to be Modi’s other proposers

Elaborating on the nomination programme, Prasad said Modi would reach BHU around 8.30 am.

A boatman and a weaver will be the two other proposers for BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi when he files his nomination here Thursday.

Justice (retired) Giridhar Malviya and Hindustani classical singer Pandit Chhannu Lal Mishra have already consented to be Modi’s  proposers.

Earlier, the family of Late shehnai maestro Bismillah Khan had refused to be part of the nomination process.

Announcing the name of the proposers at a press conference here, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “Veer Bhadra Nishad, a boatman, and Ashok, who represents the weavers’ community, would be the two other proposers.”

To a query on Allahabad-based Justice Malviya not being essentially a Varanasi citizen, Prasad said this was irrelevant. “He is a resident of Varanasi and grandson of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya,” said Prasad.

Elaborating on the nomination programme, Prasad said Modi would reach BHU around 8.30 am. He will then fly to Kashi Vidyapeeth, where he would garland the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and start his roadshow.

“We expect a large number of people to be part of the procession. Many traders’ associations have decided to join it. The details are being finalised keeping security and the tight schedule in mind,” said Prasad.

Referring to the SC’s comments against the government for failing to comply with its 2011 directions on the issue of black money, BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said the government had shown a “gross contempt of court”. “This government has not only failed the people of India but also the SC… Can there be a greater chiding of the government… They (UPA) have been cheating the country,” she said.    ENS
