The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Wednesday arrested two men in possession of 100 rounds of live bullets at Dharmanagar in North Tripura district who were travelling on board the Agartala-Deoghar Express train.

The massive seizure and arrest occurred amid tight security across the state to maintain law and order during Durga Puja. Speaking to reporters, Uttam Kumar Kalai, Dharmanagar railway station officer in-charge, said the two detainees were identified as Dipak Sen and Prasenjit Das, both residents of Madhupur village of Tripura’s Sepahijala district.

“We detained them during a surprise raid. We brought to the police station. During interrogation, we recovered 100 rounds of bullets from the possession of Dipak Sen. His nephew Prasenjit was with him when the bullets were being carried,” Kalai said.

The recovered ammunition is live rounds of .22 calibre. According to a preliminary investigation of the GRP, the bullets were being brought from Dimapur in Nagaland to sell in Tripura.
