Madras HC direction to officials on sale of law quality gingelly oil

The judges directed the officials to take action within a month if the complaint of the petitioner was true.

Madras High Court bench in Madurai has directed officials of food and safety department to take necessary steps to stop selling law quality gingelly oil as edible oil by traders. Justices A Selvam and P Kalaiarasan gave the direction on Friday on a petition by one M Vikramangalam alias Chidambaram, who submitted that in several shops law quality gingelly oil is sold as edible oil.

The quality of the oil was so bad that it was fit only to light lamp and not to consume, the petitioner submitted. The officials had not taken any action against the traders. The judges directed the officials to take action within a month if the complaint of the petitioner was true.
