J&K: Houses adjourned after ruckus over Mehbooba Mufti’s ‘anti-national’ remark

Both Houses of the state legislature were adjourned sine die, nearly a week ahead of schedule, amid uproarious scenes on Wednesday. Opposition lawmakers flung papers, broke mikes and turned furniture upside down in both Houses while asking CM Mehbooba Mufti to clarify her remarks describing as “anti-national’’ those opposed to Article 370 of the Indian Constitution.

As both houses met, Opposition legislators asked when the CM will come to clarify her remark. Mehbooba had said that there is nothing more anti-national than targeting Article 35-A so as to weaken Article 370 of the Indian Constitution.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister A R Veeri described Opposition’s attitude as “unfortunate”.
