
Mumbai, June 20: Customs sleuths here have nabbed twoYemeni women for smuggling in gold and recovered 1,006 gold coins weighing eight kilograms and valued at Rs. 33.13 lakh.
The customs officials, on suspicion, intercepted the twowomen on their arrival at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport from Aden Uta Sanna by a Yemen Airways flight yesterday.
A search of their persons yielded the coins, which werewrapped in black cellophane tape and concealed in their undergarments, a customs release said here today.
While one of the women was carrying 225 gold coins, worthRs. 7.5 lakh, the other was carrying 178 coins worth Rs. six lakh.
At the same time, customs officials noticed a polythenebag lying near a conveyor belt beneath a seat in the arrival lounge, the release said.
Examination of the bag resulted in the recovery of 603gold coins valued at Rs. 20 lakh, it added.
However, the arrested women have so far not admitted tobringing the bag, customs officials said.
The duo will be produced in a city court tomorrow, they said.
