The BJP government Monday claimed Anish Kureshi, son of a Muslim cattle trader who was recently beaten up by Bajrang Dal activists, had been booked in the past for illegally ferrying cattle for slaughter.

When The Indian Express checked with the Bichuwa Police Station it was revealed that the 25-year-old victim faced no such case.

Head Constable Mistri Lal said the case (6/07) was registered against Anishs father Aslam Kadar.

Animal Husbandry Minister Ajay Vishnoi had alleged in a statement that Anish and his family were involved in illegal transport of cattle and other crimes, almost justifying the attack.

The minister alleged a case under Gauvansh Hatya Nishedh Adhiniyam,2004,had been registered against Anish on January 5,2007 after 16 cattle were seized from him. Aslam admitted he was an accused in that case but claimed he had been framed.

The police said only one case was registered against Anish in Bichuwa Police Station (186/06) under Sections 25 and 27 of Arms Act and Sections 144 and 143 of IPC. Other family members were also booked in the same case.

The state also did not disclose that Bajrang activists had let go a Hindu man who was with Anish, whose head,an eyebrow and half the moustache was shaved off. Police said Arvind Patelia was a co-accused with Anish but had fled from the spot. Aslam alleged that the Dal workers targeted only his son.
