MHA Joint Secy ‘helped’ arms dealer Verma

On Tuesday,Union Home Secretary R K Singh summoned the joint secretary who had allegedly helped Verma.

An email, dated November 25,2011,details a conversation between arms dealer Abhishek Verma’s wife Anca Neacsu and a joint secretary with the Ministry of Home Affairs where the latter is allegedly giving assurance to Anca and US-based company Sig Sauer. On Tuesday,Union Home Secretary R K Singh summoned the joint secretary who had allegedly helped Verma.

Singh also held a meeting with CBI Director Ranjit Sinha seeking his view regarding fresh evidence received from the US-based former escrow fund manager of Verma,Edmond Allen.

The documents not only level allegations against the joint secretary but also one of the former directors of the MHA,an IPS officer who supervised the Commonwealth Games and NSG officials.

As per the evidence provided by Allen,Anca met the joint secretary, who was instructed by “a (VIP) Minister of Home Affairs”. After the meeting,Anca communicated,“The joint secretary was quite positive and said he’d solve the problem of cancelled MP Police order of 262 SIG rifles,” the email stated. “He (joint secretary) mentioned that instruction have also gone right from the top to the DG of MP Police to buy the committed quantity or their state won’t be given a dime next year by the federal government and he can also put enough pressure on the DG that he didn’t have many options left but to honour the contract,” the email added.

A director-level officer is under the scanner for meeting Anca and sharing details of procurement. This officer was reportedly code named ‘Jaisalmer’ by Verma, since his office was located at the Jaisalmer House.

One of the secret documents leaked by Verma to his clients was ‘MHA tenders details’. It is alleged that a limited liability firm,Sig Sauer LLC,was set up by Verma and Anca to corner 10 per cent commission on the deals. An IPS officer, presently posted at Arunachal Pradesh,is alleged to have stayed at London with Verma bearing all expenses. This IPS officer was joint commissioner, CWG.
