Barket Ali,Special Police Officer of J&K Police,has been awarded the Shaurya Chakra for gunning down two militants in Doda in 2010.
Twenty-four CBI officials have also been awarded medals for distinguished and meritorious services. Prominent among them are Joint Director Prabodh Kumar,heading the anti-corruption headquarters of the CBI,DIG S K Palsania,in-charge of 2G case,Additional SP S S Giri,probing illegal mining case,DIG Binita Thakur,heading the economic offences wing.
Among the police forces,the J&K Police and the CRPF topped the gallantry medals tally as the government announced 817 police awards in various categories. Among the total of 81 CRPF officials awarded,Assistant Commandant R K Singh who lost his leg while on duty was conferred with Shaurya Chakra.
The Presidents police medal for gallantry has gone to seven; police medals for gallantry to 87; Presidents police medal for distinguished service to 93; police medals for meritorious service to 630 personnel. The BSF and ITBP have won one police medal each while Assam Rifles has won four.
