Austria sees 20% jump in Indian tourist arrival

“We expect that we will register over 20 per cent growth in terms of the number of Indian tourist arrivals in Austria this year. This is considering that India’s economy is growing and it is a developing nation,” Austrian National Tourist Office Market Manager Christine Mukharji told reporters here.

She said though India contributes a small portion to Austria’s tourism,unlike the other European countries,it is growing strongly and could be a future potential growth market.

“India stands at the 37th position in the number of tourist arrivals in Austria but unlike the rest,which are stagnant,it has grown over the years,” Mukharji said,while adding that the upper middle class are the segments that it is looking to tap in India.

In India,the tourism board is looking at promoting some of its popular destinations like Innsbruck,Tirol and Salzburg.
